This river access point,
which is the beginning of the Lehigh River Water Trail, is located
in the borough of White Haven, Luzerne County. White Haven was the northern
terminus of the Upper Grand Division of the Lehigh Navigation, the system of
canal, locks, and dams that moved goods -- mostly coal -- to markets in Philadelphia
and New York in the 18th and 19th centuries. After the dams and locks
in the Upper Grand Division were destroyed in the flood of 1862, they were never
rebuilt. NEXT ACCESS POINT: 9.1 miles (Rockport)
