Two access points are currently in use on Sand Island.  Sand Island is a city park owned and operated by the city of Bethlehem.  It is maintained, contains many amenities, and is minutes by foot from the Bethlehem's downtown commercial and historic center.  The eastern end of the island is a fine recreational city park.  It contains tennis and basketball courts, restrooms, a playground, and a cultural center (the Ice House).  The western end of the island is is relatively undeveloped, but contains the better access to the river and the canal.  NEXT ACCESS POINT:  3.6 miles (Freemansburg)
