Day 2: Jim Thorpe to Walnutport

Directions to Jim Thorpe, PA (Train Station Parking Lot)

Park in Lot B (free of charge; mention you are participating in the Lehigh River Sojourn).  Registration is under the eaves of Jim Thorpe Railroad Station.

From Mauch Chunk Lake Park:  Take a right out of Mauch Chunk Lake Park onto Broadway.  Follow Broadway into town.  Continue straight through the light (Railroad Station will be in front of you).  Make a right into the Carbon County Court House parking lot.  Once in the parking lot, turn left and proceed 300-400 yards towards the end of the parking lot.  Park your vehicle here. 

From New York and New Jersey:  From George Washington Bridge, take I-80 West to Route 209 South for 33 miles to Jim Thorpe.  Proceed South on Route 209 for six miles to center of Jim Thorpe and the Carbon County Courthouse parking lot, which is just past the Jim Thorpe Railroad Station (Mauch Chunk Landing) on your right.  Turn right into the large parking lot, then turn left in the lot and proceed 300 – 400 yards towards the end of the parking lot.  Park your vehicle here.  

From the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia:  Take 476 North to EXIT 74 (formerly EXIT 34) Mahoning Valley.  Proceed South on Route 209 for six miles to center of Jim Thorpe and the Carbon County Courthouse parking lot, which is just past the Jim Thorpe Railroad Station (Mauch Chunk Landing) on your right.  Turn right into the large parking lot, then turn left in the lot and proceed 300 – 400 yards towards the end of the parking lot.  Park your vehicle here. 

From Harrisburg:  Take I-81 North to Hometown Exit – Take Route 54 East to Route 209 North for 3 miles to center of Jim Thorpe and the Carbon County Courthouse parking lot, which is just past the Jim Thorpe Railroad Station (Mauch Chunk Landing) on your right.  Turn right into the large parking lot, then turn left in the lot and proceed 300 – 400 yards towards the end of the parking lot.  Park your vehicle here.  

Campers (for night of Sunday, June 22)
Directions to Walnutport from Jim Thorpe:  Turn left out of Jim Thorpe Train Station.  Follow 209 North to stop light.  Turn left at light.  Follow 209 North through Lehighton.  After Donut Queen (on left) turn left at traffic light and follow 209 North over bridge to stop light.  Turn right onto 248 East – bear to right onto 145 South (after the 873 bridge).  Stay on 145 South.  Turn right at McDonald’s onto Main Street to Canal/River.  Turn left before Lehigh Street – turn into Walnutport Canal.
