Little Lehigh Creek Watershed

Little Lehigh Creek Stream Restoration Project

Before
After

Wildlands Conservancy completed the "Little Lehigh Creek Stream Restoration Project" in June 1999. The project was funded through a $7,842.00 "Watershed Restoration and Assistance Program" grant provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Additional financial, technical, and volunteer support was also provided by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Hilltop Excavating, Inc., Kids Peace, Valley Youth House, Parkland High School Grassroots Environmental Club, Little Lehigh Chapter Trout Unlimited and First Presbyterian Church. Water quality improvement, non-point source pollution reduction and aquatic and wildlife habitat improvement within and along the Little Lehigh Creek were the objectives of this project. The project included the placement of in-stream habitat improvement devices - bank cribbing, multi-log deflectors and single-log deflectors - along a 323-ft. reach of the Little Lehigh Creek on the property of Dr. Brendan O'Brien in Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County. A total of 240 native trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants were planted to establish a native riparian buffer approximately 12,150 square feet (.28 acres) in area.
