Coplay Creek Watershed

Coplay Creek Stream Restoration Project

Before Construction
After Construction

In July 1999, Wildlands Conservancy completed the "Coplay Creek Stream Restoration Project" with funding ($5,001.00) provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's "Watershed Restoration and Assistance Program". Additional financial, technical, and volunteer support was also provided by Boy Scout Troops 32 and 431, Boyko Petroleum, Inc. Lehigh County Juvenile Probation Office, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, Whitehall Township, Whitehall Township Environmental Advisory Council and the Whitehall Township Parkway Committee. The project is located within the Whitehall Parkway and on the property of Boyko Petroleum, Inc. in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County. In-stream habitat improvements consisting of J-hook rock vanes, root wads, bank cribbing and single-log deflectors were constructed within a 460 ft. reach of the Coplay Creek. A total of 153 native trees and shrubs were also planted to establish a native riparian buffer approximately 15,110 square feet (.35 acres) in area. The objectives of this project were to improve the water quality, reduce non-point source pollution and improve aquatic and wildlife habitat within and along the Coplay Creek. The project demonstrates a municipality and private business's commitment to implementing "Best Management Practices ."
