Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's Growing Greener Initiative

Stream Management, Stream Restoration and Riparian Management Education

In April 2000, Wildlands Conservancy received funding ($15,098.00) from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's "Environmental Stewardship Fund" (Growing Greener Initiative) to implement a "Stream Management, Stream Restoration and Riparian Management Education" project. The project is designed to educate municipal officials, watershed associations and the general public about the benefits of implementing "Best Management Practices". Through its previous work in the Lehigh River watershed, Wildlands Conservancy encountered a local watershed community requesting technical guidance and assistance. This program formalizes the assistance that Wildlands Conservancy has provided to the watershed community in the past. In addition to allowing Wildlands Conservancy to offer technical guidance and assistance to the watershed community, the program allows for the creation of specific educational tools, including an educational brochure, website improvements and an educational display. The project also allows Wildlands Conservancy to conduct watershed tours and field trips for groups and individuals to demonstrate an array of "BMP's" and stream restoration techniques.
